Earlier this year we introduced Inbox Pause schedules, which automate the days and times when email gets delivered and allow you to focus without interruption. Today, we’re releasing an update that will give you even more control and flexibility while an Inbox Pause schedule is active.
Starting today, you can temporarily override your Inbox Pause schedule when you’re waiting for an important email or plans change without turning off your schedule.

While your Inbox Pause schedule is active, use the new override features to check (or block) email on an ad hoc basis without disabling your schedule.
Deliver new email now during a scheduled pause
For those times when you have a few minutes free, like if a meeting is canceled on short notice, and you want to see what new messages have arrived. If your Inbox is currently paused according to the schedule you set up, you can now deliver new messages without turning it off entirely.
Unpause your Inbox for a duration of time during a scheduled pause
For situations when you’re expecting an important message, but your Inbox is scheduled to be paused. If you’re going back and forth with your team about a project with an imminent deadline during an afternoon that is normally blocked off for focus time, you’ll now be able to unpause your Inbox for a few hours without disabling your schedule; future pauses and unpauses can proceed as planned.
Pause your Inbox during a block of time when it’s scheduled to be unpaused
When you need to block email notifications in the short term. Maybe you need to give yourself a morning of uninterrupted maker time, or perhaps you’re taking a long weekend with your family. Either way, you can manually pause your Inbox for a duration of time you choose, and your schedule will resume afterwards.
