Welcome New Users of Boomerang!

Posted By on Aug 13, 2010

We launched Boomerang for Gmail into a much more open beta last night. The folks at TheNextWeb wrote this review and it just kind of took off from there. We’ve now been featured with some awesome reviews at Vator.TV and Techie Buzz as well. We couldn’t be happier.

We originally planned to add 250 users over the past couple days, but we’ve added way more than that, and we really appreciate all the incredible feedback you’ve had for us. We had so many requests for beta invites, most folks asked really nicely, and we just couldn’t refuse.

There have been a few points where  the flood of new users put our servers on fire, and we briefly had to disable the invite codes for a few hours to let things stabilize. Fortunately, everything seems OK for now. If you gave us an email address to request an invitation, we hope to have one to all of you by the end of the weekend, and to most of you by tomorrow.

Tips

We would love to hear from you about how you are using Boomerang for Gmail. We’ve already heard from people using it to do things that never occurred to us.  We’ll share the best ideas we hear about on this blog. Here are three ways for you to submit your tips and tricks and ways you are using Boomerang:

1. You can write a post on your own blog and send us a link.
2. You can tweet us at @baydinsoftware.
3. You can send us an email at info@baydin.com.

Here are this week’s top 3 tips:

1. Mike Daugherty Tweeted: used Boomerang for gmail today to schedule an SMS (via Google Voice) for tomorrow morning so I don’t wake my friend in the US. Sweet.
2. Matt Bowman suggests: set up birthday emails for the whole frickin year and forget about social faux pas.
3. Bounce the bad news emails to Friday night after you’ve had a drink so you can be properly vitriolic.

We hope you’ll share your awesome tips so our next batch will be even better! We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, and happy Boomeranging!

  1. Just shot out my first boomerang – will see if it sends. One concern though: Why is my browsing history necessary?

  2. It’s not – but the ‘tabs’ interface lets us pop up our authentication window, and Google displays that message any time you access it, because in theory, you could build a copy of someone’s browsing history by tracking what goes on in their tabs.

Kind of silly, but we don’t touch your browsing history.

  3. does boomerang index all my mails ? I just tried boomerang right after installation of plugin. The first few messages got processed quickly.

Older messages on submission throw error.

I tried submitting same message after a while and it worked fine.

So i’m assuming mail indexing going in the backend and it takes time ?

  4. No, doesn’t do any indexing, just a coincidence that it took a little while to work. We’ll take a look on our end to see if we can find out what happened. Thanks!

  5. how safe is it to allow baydin.com to access my gmail. as it says that it is not a product of gmail. can it collect my inbox/sent data that could get misused?
also by installing it, can it access my gmail or only when i hit “Allow” button?
